How to decide on the highlight of a day such as today?
1) Yoga with Hilary Duff. Or at least: Yoga in the same room at Hilary Duff. She’s spending time in Pittsburgh now that her husband is a Penguin, and apparently frequents the same yoga studio as me. I kept my crazy in check, and made it through the session without blurting out, “OH MY GOD I LOVED YOU IN LIZZA MCGUIRE AND RAISE YOUR VOICE AND EVEN A CINDERELLA STORY, AND THAT SONG ‘WHY NOT’ GOT ME THROUGH MY SOPHOMORE YEAR-OF-COLLEGE BREAKUP, AND YOUR HAIR IS REALLY PRETTY, AND I’M TOTALLY PROUD YOU DIDN’T END UP A CRACKWHORE LIKE LA LOHAN, AND I OWN THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE AND I SAW YOU IN CONCERT ONCE AND I WAS THE OLDEST NON-MOM THERE.”
My favorite Hil gem, “Why Not,” is posted above for your listening pleasure. If you like shameless pop, that is. Which I do.
2) Old lady at Banjo Night told me, “You’re a young pretty girl” (note: not a “pretty young girl”; there’s a difference). This is what we call a boost to the ego when you’re rapidly approaching 28 and feel, at the end of a long day, 48.
3) Peanut-butter-banana-chocolate-flaxseed-spinach smoothie.
4) Reading Room by Emma Donoghue, which is unlike anything else I’ve ever read.
