WYEP
Lately all I hear on WYEP is Best Coast’s “Boyfriend” and “You Don’t Know Me” by Ben Folds with Regina Spektor. Every time I get in the car. Every. Time. These songs. It’s enough to drive a girl to college radio.
Let’s review. Best Coast’s Crazy for You came out in July. She, i.e. Bethany, seemed to be what we’d call “A Hot New Thing” or even a “P.Y.T” this summer. But, everyone is over her by now. Really. Honestly. Everyone. Except WYEP, which seems to have just discovered her. Note to WYEP: Best Coast. Over. You’re dating yourself like Cher wearing slashed black jeans and an off-the-shoulder sequined blouse on Letterman last week.
As for “You Don’t Know Me,” it came out in 2008, September. More than two years ago. Obsessing over it now is like me just starting to watch Mad Men and flitting about, being like, “Guys, breaking news. I just discovered this brand new show. It’s called Man Men. I really think it’s going to catch on.”
Love ya, ‘YEP, but you’re testing my allegiance.
NOTE: Not that these are not enjoyable songs. But sometimes I just like to complain.
